Day 5 19th June London - The Cotswolds & Oxford

An exhausting but brilliant day.  We really wanted to see the Cotswolds so I had done a lot of research on it before I left home.  I found this day trip and could highly recommend it.  we didn't want to just go by bus through the Cotswolds so walked through them instead.  The website is www.walks.com for anyone coming to London.  It was a brilliant day.

We met our host Richard at the Paddington Station.  We managed the underground very easily.  The train system here is fantastic.  We boarded a train for Oxford one hour away.  When we arrived there we got into a bus which took us to the Cotswolds.  We visited 2 villages.  The first one was called Minster Lovell and we walked around the village past thatched cottages and through fields (people in UK are allowed to walk through private properties)  We went through the ruins of the Lovell property.  We then caught the bus to the second village called Burford.  We had lunch in the Burford Arms Hotel and the ploughmans lunch we ordered was HUGE.
On to Oxford where we walked for three hours!!!  I had no idea much about Oxford except it was a very good university.  I found the history of it extremely interesting and we were amazed at how big the area of the university was - it seemed like almost the entire town.  It has 38 colleges so many beautiful old buildings.
We got back to Paddington at 6 pm and managed to find our way back to Kings Cross.  I wish I had worn my pedometer - we were exhausted but extremely happy with our day
