Day 20 Thurs 5th July Lucerne

Last night we had Dinner in the hotel restaurant and I got to try my long awaited fondue.  It was REVOLTING. I had one mouthful and was nearly sick.  I couldn't eat any more.  I discovered this morning it was full of alcohol and very strong cheese. No wonder I couldn't  eat it.
A rest day today before we set off on our next leg of our trip.  We had a leisurely and late breakfast, then walked to the Dying Lion monument. The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a giant dying lion carved out of a wall of sandstone rock above a pond at the east end of the medieval town. It was designed as a memorial of the heroic death of the Swiss mercenary soldiers who lost their lives while serving the French king Louis XVI during the French Revolution. Mark Twain described it as the ‘saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world’
From there we wandered back to the shops and spent the next couple of hours looking at the wonderful buildings, shopping and drinking coffee.  I had my first Swiss Hot Chocolate.  What a treat.  It was HUGE.  (more calories!!)
Back to the hotel for a rest, more shopping and walking and then an early night.
