Day 2 16th June Dubai

The flight was very long.  We had a stopover in Singapore for 2 hours and then it took another 7 hours to fly to Dubai.  It was impossible to sleep. We arrived at the Dubai airport at 10 to 5 am and had to get off the plane and on to a bus which took 15 mins to get from tarmac to the terminal!!!  The airport is monstrous, constructions going on everywhere. Once we got to terminal 3 it took us less than 10 minutes to get through passport check, collect luggage, go through customs and be in our car to be driven to the hotel.  Amazing. It wouldn’t happen at Melbourne airport!!!
We arrived at the Sofitel to be treated with the usual amazing courtesies.  We were upgraded to a beautiful beachfront room and escorted to the room by the Manager. (Last time we stayed here I wrote them a letter and told them how amazing the hotel was so now they are looking after us very well)

We had a couple of hours sleep in the amazing Sofitel bed and then off to the Burj Al Arab, the 7 star hotel which looks like a sail, for our very indulgent lunch.  It was a progressive lunch through 4 of their restaurants.  The food, service, décor etc was like nothing we’ve ever experienced before. Words can’t describe it. All I could say was OMG every time they brought something else out.  At the end we gave them the Mastercard to pay and they said that they had a special with Mastercard and took 20% off the bill.  Can you believe that?   Not sure what we’ll do tonight but it certainly won’t be eating.
